ToolsSoup's Pace Calculator is a free online tool for runners, walkers, and cyclists that works out your pace, finish time, or distance from the other two values. Enter your distance and time to get your pace per kilometre or per mile, plug in a target pace to predict a finish time, or work backwards to see how far you can go. Race-distance presets for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon are one tap away, and your equivalent speed in km/h and mph is shown alongside every result. Everything runs in your browser — no uploads, no sign-up, and nothing you type ever leaves your device.

What is a pace calculator?

A pace calculator converts between the three numbers that describe a run, walk, or ride — the distance covered, the time taken, and the pace. Pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance, usually written as minutes and seconds per kilometre (min/km) or per mile (min/mi). Because the three values are linked, knowing any two lets you calculate the third: distance and time give your pace, pace and distance give your finish time, and time and pace tell you how far you went.

How to calculate your pace

Switch to the Pace tab, enter your distance and time, and the result appears instantly — no Calculate button to press:

  1. Pick the Pace, Time, or Distance tab depending on what you want to find.
  2. Choose kilometres or miles for the distance unit.
  3. Enter the distance (or tap a 5K, 10K, half, or marathon preset).
  4. Enter the time in hours, minutes, and seconds, or the pace in minutes and seconds.
  5. Read your pace, finish time, or distance, plus your speed in km/h and mph.

What is the pace formula?

Pace is time divided by distance: pace = total time ÷ distance. For example, running 10 km in 50 minutes is 50 ÷ 10 = 5:00 min/km. To predict a finish time, multiply your pace by the distance (time = pace × distance), and to find a distance, divide your total time by your pace (distance = time ÷ pace). This calculator converts between kilometres and miles for you, so your pace and speed are always shown in the units you selected.

What is a good running pace?

A good pace depends entirely on your fitness, the distance, and the terrain. Many recreational runners settle around 6:00–7:00 min/km (about 9:40–11:15 min/mi), while a brisk walk is closer to 9:00–11:00 min/km. Elite marathoners hold under 3:00 min/km for the full 42.195 km. Rather than chasing a single number, use the calculator to find the pace you need to hit a personal goal — for instance the steady pace required to finish a half marathon in under two hours.

Why use this pace calculator?

  • Solves for pace, finish time, or distance — whichever you're missing.
  • Works in both kilometres and miles, with pace shown as min/km or min/mi.
  • One-tap presets for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon distances.
  • Shows your equivalent speed in km/h and mph next to every result.
  • Updates instantly as you type, with no Calculate button to press.
  • 100% free and private — every calculation runs locally in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide your total time by the distance you covered. For example, 10 km in 50 minutes is 5:00 min/km. Enter your distance and time in the Pace tab above and the tool works it out instantly in min/km or min/mi.

How do I work out my finish time from a pace?

Switch to the Time tab, enter the race distance and your target pace, and the calculator multiplies them to predict your finish time. It's a quick way to set a goal pace for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon.

What's the difference between pace and speed?

Pace is the time to cover one unit of distance (minutes per km or mile), while speed is the distance covered per unit of time (km/h or mph). They are inverses of each other, and this tool shows both so you can read whichever you prefer.

Can I switch between minutes per kilometre and minutes per mile?

Yes. Choose km or mi from the unit selector and the pace, distance, and result all update to that unit. Race presets are converted automatically too.

Is my data kept private?

Yes. All calculations run locally in your browser with JavaScript, so the distances, times, and paces you enter are never uploaded or stored on any server.
