What is the tip formula?
The tip formula is: tip = bill × (tip percent ÷ 100), and total = bill + tip. First turn the percentage into a decimal by dividing by 100, then multiply the bill by it to get the gratuity, and add that to the bill for the total. For example, a 20% tip on a $50 bill is $50 × 0.20 = $10, for a total of $60. To split it, divide the total by the number of people: $60 ÷ 3 = $20 each.
