Extracted text
Download .txtToolsSoup's PDF Text Extractor is a free online tool that pulls all the text out of a PDF, entirely in your browser. Open your document, click extract, and instantly copy the text or download it as a plain .txt file — page by page or as one continuous block. No uploads, no sign-up, and nothing ever leaves your device.
What is a PDF text extractor?
A PDF text extractor reads the text layer embedded in a PDF and returns it as plain, editable text you can paste anywhere — a document, an email, a spreadsheet, or a translation tool. It is the fastest way to reuse the words from a report, contract, ebook, or article without retyping them. ToolsSoup extracts the text locally with the open-source PDF.js engine, walking every page and reconstructing the reading order, so your document is never sent to a server.
How to extract text from a PDF online
Getting the text out of a PDF with ToolsSoup takes just a few seconds:
- Click Select a PDF file and choose the document you want to extract text from.
- Optionally keep the page-marker checkbox on to label where each page begins.
- Click Extract text, then copy the result or download it as a .txt file.
Why isn't any text appearing?
PDFs come in two flavors. Digital PDFs created from a word processor or export tool contain a real text layer, and this tool reads it instantly. Scanned PDFs — pages photographed or scanned as images — have no text layer, only pictures of text, so there is nothing to copy. If the tool reports that no text was found, your PDF is almost certainly a scan or image, and you'll need an OCR (optical character recognition) tool to recognize the characters first.
Why use this PDF text extractor?
- 100% free with no ads, sign-up, watermarks, or page limits.

Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF text extractor free?
Yes. Every tool on ToolsSoup is completely free, with no account, sign-up, watermarks, or hidden limits.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The text extraction happens locally in your browser using JavaScript, so your document is never sent to or stored on any server.
Why does it say no text was found?
Your PDF is most likely a scan or made of images, which contain no selectable text layer. A text extractor can only read text that is already embedded in the file. For scanned documents you'll need an OCR tool to convert the images of text into actual characters first.
Does it keep the original formatting?
It extracts the words and line breaks as plain text, not the visual layout, fonts, or styling. Complex multi-column layouts and tables may not line up perfectly, but the text content is preserved so you can clean it up wherever you paste it.
Can I extract text from a specific page?
The tool extracts every page at once and, when page markers are enabled, labels each page so you can quickly find and copy the section you need from the output.
What format is the download?
A plain .txt file encoded in UTF-8, so it opens in any text editor and keeps accented characters and other Unicode intact.
