ToolsSoup's Days Between Dates Calculator is a free online tool that counts how many days fall between any two dates. Pick a start date and an end date and it instantly shows the total number of calendar days, the same gap expressed in weeks, how many of those days are weekdays versus weekend days, and a tidy weeks-and-days breakdown. Choose whether to include both endpoints or only the days in between. Everything runs in your browser, so your dates are never uploaded and there is no sign-up.

What is a days between dates calculator?

A days between dates calculator works out how many days separate two calendar dates. Unlike a business-days tool, it counts every single day — weekends and holidays included — to give you the full calendar gap. It answers everyday questions like "how many days until my trip?", "how long ago was that?", or "how many days between these two milestones?" Because it works on real calendar dates, it automatically accounts for months of different lengths and for leap years, so February 29 and the extra day in a leap year are always handled correctly.

How to count the days between two dates

The result updates the moment you change any field, so there is nothing to submit:

  1. Pick the start date (the earlier date in the range).
  2. Pick the end date (it defaults to today).
  3. Leave the inclusive box unticked to count the days strictly between the two dates, or tick "Include both the start and end date" to count both endpoints.
  4. Read the total days, plus the gap in weeks, the weekday and weekend split, and the weeks-and-days breakdown.

Inclusive vs. exclusive day counting

There are two common ways to count days, and this tool supports both. By default it counts the days strictly between the two dates — for example, from June 1 to June 4 is three days. Tick "Include both the start and end date" and it counts both endpoints, so the same range becomes four days. The inclusive count is handy when each day represents a full period (such as nights of a hotel stay plus the checkout day, or counting every dated day on a calendar), while the exclusive count answers "how many days from one date to the other."

Weekdays, weekend days, and weeks

Beyond the headline total, the calculator breaks the range down so you can see its shape at a glance. It reports how many of the days are weekdays (Monday to Friday) and how many fall on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), the gap expressed as a decimal number of weeks, and a friendly weeks-and-days breakdown such as "2 weeks and 3 days." If you specifically need to exclude weekends and holidays from the count, use our Business Days Calculator instead — this tool always counts every calendar day.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?

Enter a start date and an end date and the tool instantly counts the calendar days between them. Tick "Include both the start and end date" if you want both endpoints counted, or leave it unticked for the days strictly in between.

Does it count weekends?

Yes. This calculator counts every calendar day in the range, weekends and holidays included, and also tells you separately how many of those days are weekdays and how many fall on a weekend. To exclude weekends, use our Business Days Calculator.

Should I include the start and end date?

It depends on what you are measuring. Leave the box unticked to count the days between the two dates (June 1 to June 4 is three days). Tick it to include both endpoints (the same range becomes four days), which is useful when every dated day counts.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. The tool uses real calendar dates, so leap years and months of different lengths — including February 29 — are always counted correctly.

Are my dates kept private?

Yes. All calculations run locally in your browser using JavaScript, so the dates you enter are never sent to or stored on any server.
